Leadership coaching for data leaders
You got promoted because you were the best on the team. Now you have to lead them.
That shift is the hardest one in your career, and most data managers never get help with it.
I’m Pier, VP of Data, Analytics & AI and an IECL-certified executive coach, with over 20 years leading data teams across three continents. I work with data managers 1 to 3 years into leadership.
$599, and it pays for itself in about a week. · Not ready yet? Book a free 30-min intro call.
Is this you?
You’re not stuck because you lack skill. You’re stuck because the rules changed and nobody told you.
- You ship the work, but you’re not in the strategic conversations, and you can’t tell why.
- Your team still treats you like a senior IC. Every problem comes back to your desk because you’re the technical safety net, and that’s now the thing keeping you small.
- You present perfectly clean data to executives and leave with no decision moved. The numbers were right. Nothing happened.
- You’re working harder than ever and feeling less effective. The harder you push, the more fragile it feels.
- AI is reshaping how your team sees itself, and you’re asked to lead through it without a playbook.
If any of those land, you’re in the right place.
Here’s what nobody told you when you got promoted
The technical excellence that earned you the job is now a trap. The skills that got you hired are not the skills that take you further. Communication. Influence. Visibility. Those decide how far you go.
Technical skills get you hired. Communication, influence, and visibility decide how far you go.
The hardest version of this trap is the one I lived
I came up as a data analyst in Sydney and spent eight years building a data function inside a Canadian wealth-management firm. I got promoted into leadership because I was the best individual contributor on the team. For my first year as a manager, I was fixing my team’s work at nights and on weekends, quietly cleaning it up rather than confronting it. I told myself it was helping. It wasn’t.
My manager sat me down and said something I’ve never forgotten:
“Your job is no longer to be the best individual contributor. Your job is to build the best individual contributor. Those are completely different jobs, and you’re still doing the first one.”
That conversation changed how I led from that point on. I tell it to almost every coaching client now, because almost every new data manager is doing exactly the same thing. And nobody told them, either.
The AI-Ready Data Leader: Build Your AI Operating System
A live, cohort-based course on Maven. In 8 live hours you build nine frameworks into an AI Operating System you keep, designed to give you back 5+ hours a week. Built for data managers 1–3 years into leadership who want to stop sounding like the smartest analyst in the room, and start leading like an executive.
Speak Their Language
The communication foundation, stop talking like an analyst, start landing like a leader. The Audience Map, Tension → Insight → Outcome storytelling, and a stakeholder-writing tool you build into your OS.
Lead the Change
Lead your team through AI without overpromising or panic-suppressing. The Change Response Matrix, C.O.R.E., and T.I.M.E., sell AI as a business case, not a demo.
Run a System That Scales
The operating system that gives you back time to lead. The Leverage Matrix, the 7 Levels of Delegation, an Operating Rhythm, and O.D.A.
Decide What Matters & Demo Day
Where the whole system fires at once. The Priority Grid, RICE, and C.A.L.L. for logging decisions, then present the system you built.
“Pier overloads you with little gems of learning, at just the right pace and cadence. The balance between teaching and interactive group work is spot on, and Pier himself is the biggest gem of this course. A definite recommendation.”
Why I’m the one teaching this
I started as a data analyst; I’m now VP of Data, Analytics & AI in Berlin, running a 30-person team, with over 20 years in data leadership across Australia, Canada and Germany. I became an executive coach after the hardest people decision of my career, when my head of HR told me I’d benefit from one. She was right. I got IECL-certified in 2023, and now I coach the people I used to be.
I’m not teaching from theory, I’m running a 30-person data org right now. Everything I teach is what I’m running.

“The biggest shift was learning how to connect my work to business impact. I’m not just coding models anymore, I’m influencing decisions, and people are noticing.”
“His frameworks felt like a true operating system for leadership, practical, clear, and immediately useful. I now communicate with focus and confidence, and the lessons continue to shape how I lead.”
